Aqua Bleu Gone, Tie Dye In: Big Changes Downtown

A downtown staple, the flashy Asian fusion Aqua Bleu, closed last week. Meanwhile, several new businesses have opened and one has returned.

The deck has shuffled again downtown before the holiday shopping season.

Aqua Bleu is gone, a victim of not enough business and too many expenses, such as having to pay for parking, said a person close to the restaurant who asked not to be identified.

The flashy Asian fusion restaurant had lit up Pacific Avenue for eight years.

Across the street is downtown's first Boba house at 1101 C Pacific Ave, Boba Cruz. Right next door is a new ice cream shop, Mission Hill Creamery. Boba, also called bubble tea, is a tea-based drink that has fruit, flavorings and pearls made of small pieces of tapioca.

Head up Pacific and go left to 119 Walnut Ave. and you've got the most colorful new busness downtown, A Brighter World. This shop not only sells tie-dyed clothes, but gives classes in making tie-dye so you can create your own right there.

Sessions snowboarding apparel was gone and now it's back at 1125 Pacific Ave. The internationally-known company was started in Sunnyvale by Joel Gomez, who opened the first store in 1983 specializing in snowboard gear.

That grew into products sold all over the world, from the company based in Scotts Valley.
