Inmate Returns to Jail
Man who left Watsonville detention facility is back in custody.
The inmate who walked away from a Watsonville detention facility Friday turned himself in four days later at the Santa Cruz Main Jail on Water Street, after seeing his image "everywhere," the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office reported Wednesday.
Anthony Morales Jr., 28, was released from custody Friday to go to a doctor's appointment. He was court-ordered to return to the main jail in Santa Cruz no later than 5 p.m. that day.
When Morales failed to show up at the jail Friday, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Tuesday evening, Morales turned himself in after intense media coverage, the sheriff's office said.
Morales said he'd seen himself "everywhere," so he decided to turn himself in.
