Starting Tuesday, the Santa Cruz City Council will show its meetings online live and afterwards on endless looping.

“We are constantly seeking avenues to involve and inform our residents of important City decisions,” said Mayor Don Lane in a press release announcing the move. “Many of our residents do not have time to attend Council meetings in person or watch them live on TV.  Now, Santa Cruz residents can view meetings online at anytime to accommodate their priorities and busy lives.”   

An added advantage to the online system, the city says in its release, is that all agenda items are “indexed,” allowing viewers to skip directly to the agenda item of interest like choosing a track on a CD. 

The thought is that people who can't make the lenghthy Tuesday sessions, some held during work hours, can view them at their convenience at home.

Among the issues on the agenda for Tuesday's 3 p.m. is a request to approve another $95,000 toward a consultant for the desalination plant proposal.

Oral communications from residents will be at 5 p.m. and new appointments to city commissions will be announced at the 7 p.m. meeting.
