Save Our Shores (SOS), the leader in ocean awareness, advocacy and action on the Central Coast, announced today "The French Toast Mafia", a middle school team from the Student Oceanography Club at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, is hosting a beach clean-up on Saturday, January 11th from 10am -12 noon at Twin Lakes State Beach.
This team of students from Tierra Pacifica, Ocean Grove, and Pacific Collegiate Schools have made beach clean-ups their project for the year. The team is partnering with Save Our Shores with the goal of cleaning "one beach at a time".
“This is what we love to see, students taking initiative to lead their own events, and in turn inspiring their peers to do the same,” said Rachel Kippen, Program Manager at SOS.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate. Those under the age of 18 must be signed in and accompanied by a guardian. Please wear covered shoes and bring a bucket and garden gloves if possible.
The event starts at 10am. Sign up will take place on the beach by the volleyball courts fronting the Palomar by the Lake Avenue turn around.
The French Toast Mafia recently joined Save Our Shores Adopt a Beach Program, and are committed to protecting the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary by cleaning their beach three times this year.
