Save Our Shores Honors Locals

Save Our Shores (SOS), the leader in ocean awareness, advocacy and action on the Central Coast, announced their selection for exemplary community members who make a difference for the oceans.  This year Save Our Shores is delighted to honor:

Supervisor Joe Simitian 2013 Ocean Hero

Joe has a long history of working for the protection of our oceans.  While in the Senate, Joe proposed important legislation including regulations on cruise ship discharge and improving recycling efforts in the state.  Joe is now serving on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.

As one of our biggest supporters in Monterey, Portola Hotel and Spa has hosted multiple events for Save Our Shores including the Annual Monterey Beer Garden event (coming up on September 28th!).  They have also been protecting their local beach for years as an Adopt-A-Beach group for Del Monte Beach.

Nancy Connelly as 2013 Volunteer of the Year

Nancy is a Sanctuary Steward class of 2011 graduate who has volunteered over 330 hours with SOS! Nancy is always willing to help out at events with a smile on her face and passion in her heart.  We love you Nancy!

We applaud Supervisor Simitian, The Portola Hotel and Nancy for creating a healthier Monterey Bay!
