Beaches Shrink as 'King Tide' Rises
The morning high tide looked threatening, but backed off without doing damage
They call it the 'King Tide," but former Santa Cruz Harbormaster Steve Scheiblauer is unimpressed.
"We have it every year and I don't know why they are making such a big deal this year," said the man who currently serves as Harbormaster in Monterey.
Three years ago, he said, the tide was at 6.9 feet; this year was 6.7 in Monterey, roughly 2 or 3 feet above normal.
