They call it the 'King Tide," but former Santa Cruz Harbormaster Steve Scheiblauer is unimpressed.
"We have it every year and I don't know why they are making such a big deal this year," said the man who currently serves as Harbormaster in Monterey.
Three years ago, he said, the tide was at 6.9 feet; this year was 6.7 in Monterey, roughly 2 or 3 feet above normal.
He thinks this year people concerned with climate change and the effect on the seas are fueling the talk. This article in KQED, calling it "a glimpse into the future," backs him up.
