Fashion + Art = Fun On A Friday In Santa Cruz

The Museum of Art & History is hosting its fabulous "Fashion Art Santa Cruz" April 18.

Body-painting, tattoo-story swapping, art and fashion transformations, plus a dress-up costume booth are all planned this Friday -- April 18 -- at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History's Fashion Art Santa Cruz.

The evening activities run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with kids' "happy hour" from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

FashionART: Paint to Wear,” a fashion art paint-a-thon with local artists and fashion designers Rose SelleryTina Brown, and Angelo Grova. Artists will transform white jumpsuits into fashion art as the night goes on. Models will model the jumpsuits in a runway show from 7:30-8pm.

Who said dress up was for kids? Travel to different fashion eras with a Costume Photo Booth by local costume store Closet Capers. Tallie Crawford from Closet Capers will also lead a costume design and sketching workshop at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30.  

Swap out your old garb for new gems with UCSC’s Slug Style clothing swap by bringing in your unwanted clothes and trading with others.

Take face painting to the next level with local body artist Brenda Leach, concoct your own body scrub, and watch body art in action with Icarus Zaure Wendel and Rose The Body Painter.  

Icarus Zaure Wendel will paint on a live model on stage from 5 p.m. to 6:0 p.m. Rose the Body Painter, assistant John Waiton, and award winning hair stylist Jaymz Merez  will paint a masterpiece on live model Carino Magana throughout the evening. 

Curious about the art of tattooing? Here’s your chance to ask all your wild tattoo questions and learn about the tools and process of tattooing with celebrated Tattoo Artist Flip Hayes from the Somos Gallery. And for those of you who have tattoos, share your tattoo tales at our tattoo tale booth. 

Want to learn some new hair tricks? The Salon on the Square will demonstrate historical makeup and hairdos on live models. Learn how to braid hair and make DIY makeup with the Cosmos Factory, who will host a braid bar, a make-your-own-makeup bar, and demonstrate how to design historical hairstyles.

Don’t miss Kid Happy Hour with art activities just for kids from 4-5PM in the classroom.  This month families with young children can enjoy our “Tats for Tots” booth, alongside designing their own garments for paper dolls and crafting radical mustaches.

Admission is: $5 General; $3 Students, Seniors and Kids; FREE for MAH Members and children 3 and under.
