Get Out: A Fashion Show, A Chris Rene Concert and a Triathalon!

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here's a guide to your weekend in Santa Cruz.

Who says that the fun in Santa Cruz ends when summer ends? There's so much going on this weekend it feels like an endless summer. Here are a few highlights for this weekend:

Friday, September 21:

Art That Moves

What: The 3rd Friday event at the Museum of Art and History features tarp surfers, dance performers, and many more interactive art forms set to motion. 

Where/When: At the MAH, at 705 Front Street, from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Cost: $5

Santa Cruz Rocks the Vote

What: A party featuring live performances by Chris Rene, Cruz Matik, and Ribsy's Nickel. The event is to support Santa Cruz City Council Candidate Pamela Comstock, and to encourage young people to get out and vote.

Where/When: At the top of the Rittenhouse Building at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Church Street. 7:30 p.m. 

Cost: $35 plus tax, buy them online HERE. 21 and up. 

Leche de Tigre

What: Latin Gypsy Funk band from the big island of Hawaii with special appearances by 7 Come 11 and the Magic Hats

Where/When: Live in the atrium at the Catalyst Club on Pacific Avenue. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., show starts at 9 p.m.

Cost: $9/adv and $12/door. 21 and up!

Midnight Movie

What: Each weekend, a different movie is shown at the Del Mar theater on Pacific Avenue. This week is Drive, with Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan. (Click movie title for full description.) The midnight movie features prizes!

When: Friday and Saturday night at midnight.

Cost: $6.50

Saturday, September 22:

Family Art Day: Fallapalooza

What: Transform leaves into animals, fallen fruits into prints, and get creative with chalk, bubbles, hula hoops and face painting. This is a family day of arts and crafts that celebrate the coming of autumn!

Where/When: At the MAH, 705 Front Street/11 a.m.-5 p.m., with face painting from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and a Puppet Show at 11 a.m.

Cost: $5 general/$3 members

fasihionART Santa Cruz

What: The very best of fashion and art, hand crafted by local artists. A "full blown multi media runway fashion show."

Where/When: Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium at 307 Church Street. Runway show at 7 p.m. and Trunk Show from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Cost: $17/adv and $19/door.

Chess Tournament

What: A meeting of the minds! Directed by Gjon Feinstein. Ages 6-8 and 9-12 and 13-18. Prizes given to the 1st and 2nd place finishers in each group.

Where/When: At the Downtown Branch of the Santa Cruz Public Library's meeting room. Sign ups are at noon, and games begin at 1 p.m. 

Cost: FREE.

Aptos Farmers Market

What: More commonly known as the Cabrillo Market, this market was just voted best market in California by its customers and not without reason. It's a beautiful way to start the weekend.

Where/When: On top of the Cabrillo College parking garage at 6500 Soquel Drive. 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Sunday, September 23: 

Live Oak Farmers Market

What: A beautiful and little gem of a market, just a block from the beach. A great way to spend a Sunday morning and get your shopping done for the week!

Where/When: East Cliff Plaza on East Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz. 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Cost: Free.

David Dondero

What: A concert by this American singer, songwriter, guitarist and once lead vocalist for the band Sunbrain. Dondero has been a solo artist for the past two decades, releasing nine studio albums during that time.

Where/When: The Crepe Place/9 p.m.

Cost: $8/adv and $10/door.

Triathlon!

What: The 30th Annual Santa Cruz Triathlon is this Sunday. Formerly named the Santa Cruz Sentinel Triathlon, the SC Triathlon is a non-profit race that donates to the Santa Cruz community, donated $50,000 since it began. The triathlon consists of a "brisk" ocean swim around the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf, an out-and-back ride to Davenport, and a 10k run along West Cliff Drive.

Where/When: Participants should report to the Lifeguard Tower #3 on the Main Beach at 7:45 am. Race starts at 8 a.m. See MAP.
