Where/When: Santa Cruz County Library Central Branch, Saturday, 1 pm to 4:30 pm.
Why Go: The Santa Cruz Public Library will hold their 3rd Annual Teen Battle of the Bands to reward teens and youth as part of the summer readings Program, "One World, Many Stories." Participating Bands include Almost Chaos, Blue Weekend, Funky Dosage, Grae's Academy, Urban Theory and Lifewire. Come out support local bands and enjoy some afternoon music.

Where/When: Capitola Book Cafe, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: Capitola resident Kathryn Gualtieri will take guests through her new novel "Murder in the Pines" based in 1920s Carmel. The historical mystery provides readers a unique look a the early years of the seaside town and gives everyone involved plenty of intrigue as not one, but two murders are key premises in the plot.

Where/When: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Friday night, 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Why Go: The soul and funk band has been touring since the mid-70s. The group had a string of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980 including "Pick up the Pieces" and "Cut the Cake." The lively bunch continues to tour the globe to this day and will give beach visitors an end-of-the-week treat during their two performances Friday evening.
