Get Out in Santa Cruz: Gin Blossoms, Photo Wall and Cycling

Music at the Boardwalk, a photo wall at the local surf shop and a music festival at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium

Where/When: , 912 41st Ave, Santa Cruz, CA. Friday, 6 pm to 9 pm.

Why Go: The first Friday of the month event showcases work from photographers Shawn Hatjes, Matt Kurvin and Terry Way. The SC showcase also will feature live music from Ariana Rice and have yummy food provided by Pono Hawaiian Grill.

Where/When: Race start line is at Alexander and Union St. in downtown Watsonville. Start time for the first race is 3:30 pm on Saturday. The final race begins at 5:20 pm. 

Why Go: The inaugural cycling race coincides with the annual Strawberry Festival in Watsonville. Sponsored by California Giant Berry Farms, the race will feature over 200 cyclists as they buzz through the streets of Watsonville.

Why Go: The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, led by Maestra Marin Alsop, is one of the most critically acclaimed presenters of contemporary music in the nation. During the first two weeks of August each year, audiences are joined by both preeminent and emerging composers, renowned guest artists, and an orchestra of dedicated professional musicians led by famed conductor Marin Alsop.

Where/When: Capitola Book Cafe, Thursday, 7:30 pm to 9 pm. 

Why Go: California Assemblymember Bill Monning will speak about his "Vision for a Healthy California" on Thursday night at the Capitola Book Cafe. Join your fellow Santa Cruz County residents to listen to the assemblymember discuss the timely issue to California, the county and the nation.

Where/When: City Plaza, W Beach St & Main St, Watsonville, CA 95076, Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 7 pm. 

Why Go: The 17th annual Watsonville Strawberry Festival at Monterey Bay will be held in downtown Watsonville this weekend. Come enjoy live music, local arts and crafts and, of course, yummy strawberry cuisine.

Where/When: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Friday, 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm. 

Why Go: The summer series rocks on with 90's rockers the Gin Blossoms, this week at the boardwalk. With hits such as "Hey Jealousy" ,"Found Out About You" and "Till I Hear it From You", beachgoers are in for a fun flashback to the rock crazy decade of the '90s. The first show begins at 6:30 pm.
