Get Out in Santa Cruz: Loverboy, Wine Tasting and Chicken Keeping

Bring home three live chicks, enjoy a concert at the beach and sample some of Italy's finest wines this week in Santa Cruz.

Where/When: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, 400 Beach St., Santa Cruz, Friday, 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. 

Why Go: From 1980 through 1987, Loverboy racked up four multi-platinium albums. The rockers hit list includes Working for the Weeken" and Lovin' Every Minute of It, songs that would become party rock anthems for an entire generation.

Why Go: Wine expert Laura Majano of Classic Wines California will tour guests through a hearty selection of choices from the Italian Wine Country. The event fee covers the tasting and a fun assortment of yummy finger foods.

Where/When:  The Catalyst, 1011 Pacific Ave., Thursday, 8 pm. 

Why Go: Santa Cruz's Surf City Burlesque troupe just by themselves turns a dull Thursday night upside down, but the the group will also be joined by Stella by Barlight to add some jazz flavor to the proceeding's. 

Pricing: $10

Where/When: 800 Bethany Dr, Scotts Valley, CA 95066, Saturday at 2 pm and Sunday at 6:30 pm. 

Why Go: This year SVPA Youth Shakespeare has expanded its repertoire to include a second show, Journey Fantastique: Art and Poetry in Motion.   A truly multi media performance, it is a collaboration of paintings by well known Santa Cruz artist James Carl Aschbacher, stories told in verse about the artwork by Trish Black Melehan, and the lively music of Ragtime’s Scott Joplin, performed by local pianist and piano teacher Samantha Allott. 

Pricing: $10 to $13

Where/When: 2317 Vine Hill Rd, Santa Cruz, CA, Saturday, 2 pm.  

Why Go: Want a new pet for the house? The Love Apple Farms Backyard Chicken Keeping class nurtures students on how to raise and keep chickens in your own backyard. At the end of the course, students will take home three live chicks and a starter kit to get you off and running. 

Pricing: $110

Where/When: Aptos Village Park, 100 Aptos Creek Rd.
Aptos, CA 95003 , Saturday, 12:30 pm to 5 pm. 

Why Go: What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than to sample beers from breweries all over the region. Local favorite Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery will be in attendance along with over 50 other craft brews on tap and plenty of live music as well.
