Grab and Go Kids Planner for March 9 to March 13

The science fair, a look with your child at the art of Peace Sign Paul; and a robotics showl are just some of the things to do in and around Santa Cruz this week and into the weekend.

Wondering what you can do with your kids this week that will be fun for them and for you!   We've got a couple of ideas here that will expose your kids to the world of books,  a few science adventures and more. 

We've done the research, we've done your homework and we're ready to give you our suggestions for some activities you can do for and with your child this week.

Where/When: , 2601 E Lake Ave, Watsonville; Friday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., for set up; Saturday; 9:15 a.m. to 7 p.m. for presentations, judging and more.

Why Go: Your child may be participating and if they are not participating this year, they could be the next year.  It's a great way to be inspired and to be inspiring in the world of science in Santa Cruz County. More than 500 elementary, middle and high school students are expected to compete in what promises to be a fun and interesting day.

BROOM BASHING

Where/When: Quail Hollow Ranch County Park,  800 Quail Hollow Road, Felton; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Why go:  Spend a few hours outdoors with your child help clear park trails.  French Broom takes over natural habitats and Saturday's work day help keep the habitat for us. Bring your children and the trail cleanup can be a family outing, where you also begin to make your children aware of the need to work on behalf of the environment.

Where/When:  , 1156 High St. (Media Theater) Thursday, 6:30 p.m.

Why Go: Want to see a bullfight robot style?  Then show up for this event. Robots built by UC Santa Cruz engineering students will be bullfighters and toreadors in this public demonstration.  An interesting approach to robotis and should be fun.

Pricing: Free 

Where/When: , 21231 E Cliff Drive, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday,  7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: To look at the work of P-sign Paul, as he is known around Santa Cruz, not on the beach but on display as a photo exhibit. P-sign Paul has traditionally done his sand drawings on the beach; now you can see them in photographs. This is the first time he has put his work on behalf of peace together like this. Peace. Now that's a concept to share with your child. Go this week, but if you can't make it, the exhibit is up until the end of the month.

Where/When: San Jose State University, with the student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers, Saturday, 9 a.m.to 3 p.m.

Why Go:  This is a day-long event for high school girls and their parents. young women who might be interested in a career in engineering. Go and find out if engineering might be right for her. And you as the parent, encourage your daughter to dream and succeed! You'll get to tour the School of Engineering, meet with university students who are already on their way, and more.
