Here's What People on Facebook are Saying About the New Medical Building on Mission Street

  • Kimber Desmond It is abominable. The most un-Santa Cruz bldg. I've ever seen. What a huge mistake. Everyone I've spoken to hates it. Nice going City Council and Planning Commission. Wonder whose pockets got full when they erected the horrible eyesore. Pissed!

  • Diane Bourdet It's big and ugly...changes the whole look of the area...

  • Michael Villa BUTTT UGLY! * This era will be known as the time Santa Cruz city council fell asleep at the wheel and did nothing about anything and everything went to hell and back! remember when we had code and ordanances_Has anyone noticed how close to the road this structure is? Real big trucks always come by this strech - good luck!

  • Beverly Menehan It's only a framework so far...let it get finished.

  • Jonathan Cano #firstworldproblem

  • Leland Olson that strip mall that was there was the eyesore. I'm sure when this is finished it will look nice and provide a needed service. but until then we just have to deal with the framework.

  • Charley Lochtefeld If it pisses off the locals I am all for it. Maybe they can stage a big protest like they did for the yellow one that does not bother anyone anymore.

  • Sally Smith-Weymouth There is also a building going up on Ocean Street - near the entrance to town - that has no set back and is literally right on the edge of the sidewalk. How is this possible? If we as homeowners were to build our house or garage out to the edge of the sidewalk, I don't think we would receive city planning approval to do so. I guess it comes down to who has the money to grease the palms of those who make the decisions.

  • Douglass Weymouth You can thank the Planning Commission for this UGLY building. Since we have no architectural theme in Santa Cruz, they just let it all go. How about some setbacks from the street and sidewalk?

  • Ruth DiMarzio A bunch of Westsiders pissed off about something completely trivial (again)? *yawn* who cares? Talk about petty. Mission St. is ugly anyway. This isn't Carmel, SC doesn't need an "architectural theme". Let's talk about something that matters. Or Miley Cyrus. Let's talk about her. (<--that's sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell)

  • Bill Lewis Mission St (aka Route 1) should be a commuter road, not a strip mall. At least the medical building won't draw too much more traffic, but it is too close to the road.
