Patch Surf Writer Danny Keith Makes the TV News During a Big South Swell

He was lucky. He just broke his board in the big waves expected to continue through the weekend.

Santa Cruz Patch writer Danny Keith was interviewed for this TV news story on KSBW.

"It was a solid 6-foot set at The Hook; it was going off, incredible," Keith told the TV station. "(Friday) is the peak of the swell; there is a solid 8-foot set coming through (Pleasure) Point right now."

The swell is forecast to generate 8- to 10-foot waves on Friday, die down in the evening and re-surge Saturday afternoon at 8 feet, according to Surfline.com.

The big swell was generated by a storm off the coast of New Zealand, where it is winter.

This is a good resource to check out the waves before you go. http://www.surfline.com/surf-report/steamer-lane-central-california-hdcam_4188/ It's free if you only want a quick look.
