Several people got a chance to ride Santa Cruz's newest holiday train on Saturday afternoon.

Hundreds of people showed up to the Swift Street Courtyard for a chance to see the new holiday train at the Right On Track Rail Corridor event on Saturday afternoon.

Just about every child and grown-up looked excited and eager to get on the Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway owned by the Iowa Pacific Railroad's local branch.

After Saturday's first set of rides, the train is set to make scheduled trips on the weekends to Christmas Town which is set up in an out-of-town field near Wilder Ranch.

However, Saturday wasn't just about the SC & MB Railway showing off their new toy to the public. According to the Santa Cruz Regional Transportaion Commission website, it was also "A community event to commemorate public ownership and demonstrate potential use of the rail corridor."
