Slide Show: Carless in Santa Cruz: Open Streets Brings Out Alternatives

The line most heard Sunday: "They should do this every week."

For the second time, Santa Cruz closed a section of West Cliff Drive to cars from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and crowds came in droves to enjoy the scenic road without choking fumes and deafening motorcycles.

Bike stores led processions to the event, to encourage those who might not want to bike there alone. Others rode themselves from all over, passing other cyclists with the greeting, "Happy Open Streets Day."

There was music, food, bike information, a climbing wall and people on wheels of all kinds.
