Spring Break on the Boardwalk, James Durbin and Easter Egg Hunts

As always, there's a lot going on in and around Santa Cruz this week. Spring break at the boardwalk, an Easter brunch or an Easter Egg Hunt, a rock show over the weekend and let's not forget to cheer for James Durbin.

Where/When: , 301 Center St, Wednesday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: He's down to the Final Seven. This Wednesday night James Durbin will be up again. So why not go to American Idol night at the Teen Center and watch James  with your friends. Watch it with your parents. Watch it with your children. Go there and watch our own Santa Cruz contestant James Durbin and cheer him on in his quest to be the next American Idol.

Where/When: Roaring Camp Railroads,    5355 Graham Hill Rd, Felton, Saturday and Sunday; 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m.

Why Go: Because it will be an Eggstraordinary adventure for your kids. They will get to ride aboard the Roaring Camp Eggspress to go on the Eggstraordinary Egg Hunt.  Here's some of what they will get. The story of Peter Rabbit on the train ride up Bear Mountain. A visit the Easter Egg patch and hunt for colorful chocolate candy eggs hidden by the Easter Bunny.  And more. Children must have a train ticket to participate in the Egg Hunt.

Pricing:  Train rides are $24 for adults, $17 for children (2-12 years). Children under 2 are free

Where/When: , 400 Beach St. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Why Go: Lots of fun events for all ages.  As Comcast suggests, for these few days you can ditch the books and hit the beach and the boardwalk! For the older kids, live music and beach competitions. For the younger kids at this family-friendly event, interactive games and some celebrities your kids might enjoy seeing like Sponge Bob or Ultimate Fighter Dan. There's something here for everyone during these three days of fun.

Where/When: , 400 Beach St, Santa Cruz, CA 9506, Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy a delicious Easter Brunch with an ocean-view. Champagne (for you) and everything else you could think of for brunch for you and your children to make your Easter morning or early afternoon meal a special one.  And you can walk it off afterward with a walk on the beach...or if you are really adventurous, take your children for a ride on the carousel!

Pricing: That's up to you!

Where/When: , 307 Church St. Saturday, Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Why Go: If you like collecting rocks, or just plain looking at them, the show this weekend will be an absolute delight with the Santa Cruz Mineral and Gem Society's displays of "Treasures of the Earth." Lots of jewels, jade, rocks, fossils and more. And this is perfect for a kid-friendly outing. What kid doesn't like rocks? Plus it will be easy on your pocketbook.

Pricing: $4 for adults, kids and Scouts in uniform, free
