Which Should Be the New Santa Cruz Warriors Sandwich?
Zoccoli's Italian Deli held a contest at the Warriors Press Day Wednesday
By the speed with which they disappeared, the new Santa Cruz Warriors sandwich should probably be the Tri-Tip.
But maybe that was a hanging chad or some cheese.
Zoccoli's Deli manager Patty Zoccoli wanted to honor the Santa Cruz D-League basketball team with a sandwich of its own, so she had the players vote with their stomachs. Only, food in front of training athletes disappears as fast as snow in July, so she had them vote for their favorites.
Candidates were the downtown deli's most popular choices: Tri-Tip, Italian Club and Pesto Chicken. Zoccoli's, one of the oldest businesses in town, founded in 1948, named a sandwich for another famous local, American Idol singer James Durbin.
We'll let you know the winner after the votes are counted...oops, this just in...TRI-TIP won. It's the new Warriors meal.
