It was just Wednesday night that America l on Simon Cowell's newest talent-scouting hit "The X-Factor."
Just 24 hours later, the pool of 100 has been pared down to 32 and with the reduction came the casualty of Gina, for whom the show's boot camp round was slightly too competitive.
In the episode's second hour, the lot, which had dwindled down to 65, was split into four categories: boys, girls, groups and singers over 30-years-old. Eight finalists from each of those divisions were then chosen as the show's top 32.
fell into the boys category. Following seven names that were not his own, Rene heard the judges call him out as the last finalist to make the cut, proving his rendition of "Every Breath You Take" by The Police was good enough for now.
"I’m speechless, but happy. So happy," he said.
In the over-30 partition, Gina's name went uncalled. Instead, the final spot went to the vocally-over-the-top Stacy Francis.
Each judge was selected to personally mentor one of the four groups. Chris's boys category will learn under the tutelage of industry mogul L.A. Reid, who next week will downsize his class from eight to four.
