Jimmy Cobb/Joey DeFrancesco/Larry Coryell Trio: In Tribute to Jimmy Smith and Wes Montgomery
An all-star group pays tribute to the timeless recordings of Jimmy Smith and Wes Montgomery, the epitome of the Hammond B-3 organ genre in the 1960s. NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Cobb is one of the most ‘listened to’ drummers in recorded jazz – thanks to his playing on Mile Davis’ Kind of Blue; he also performed on some of guitar legend Wes Montgomery’s best albums. Joey DeFrancesco, another Miles Davis alumnus, is an extraordinary organist and the acknowledged heir to Jimmy Smith’s Hammond B-3 legacy. Master guitarist Larry Coryell was a pioneer of the late ’60s, early ’70s jazz/rock movement and continues to explore a wide range of music with his distinctive sound.
