Sand Drawings Photo Exhibit by P-sign Paul

P-sign Paul began creating his peace sign sand-drawings along local Santa Cruz beaches in 2004. His art has been featured both in print and on TV, but this is first photo exhibit. He encourages folks to share the concept of peace with everyone, everyday, everywhere.

"A little over four years ago, (after my "retirement"), I decided to take advantage of the dramatic minus low tides and smooth exposed sand along my neighborhood beach and grabbed a stick and started creating sand illustrations. Originally my huge drawings of peace signs were to remind beach visitors that war is a waste in every sense of the word, and that killing others is never the answer. Now.....my drawings have taken on a life and importance of their own. Many times I'll have 30 to 50 people watching me from the cliffs above as I draw in the sand and do my performance art; applauding my every move, whistling positive support and calling out words of beauty and encouragement.

I truly enjoy interacting with friends, neighbors and various beach visitors as they comment on the "meaning" of my sand art. Little kids viewing my huge peace signs for the first time are the best judges when they exclaim "Wow, look at that! Cool! What is it?", as their surprised and bewildered parent explains the concept of symbols, world peace and ending war."
