From his early gigs with jazz/fusion pioneer Jean Luc Ponty to the rock anthems of Journey, Smith has been the ultimate sideman, always delivering ‘the goods,’ but never sacrificing musicality for technique. Electric and energetic, Vital Information has a melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic inventiveness that can travel from gritty funkiness to exotic, head-spinning, polyrhythmic grooves.
