Get Out in Santa Cruz

Check out our suggestions for what to do in and around Santa Cruz this weekend —and our weekend starts on Thursday. So go ahead and Get Out!

Jazz, the symphony, politics, trail blazing and trail building, and a garden show —  all this and more for you this weekend in and around Santa Cruz. So don't hesitate, have some fun and get out!

Where/When: , 320 Cedar St, Santa Cruz, Thursday, 7:00 p.m. 

Why Go: Need you ask. These musicians have the Quincy Jones' seal of approval.  Cuban piano phenomenon Alfredo Rodriguez has made appearances throughout Europe and Latin America since the age of fifteen. He draws on the classics to infuse his jazz. You won't be sorry if you come and hear this trio play!

Where/When: 740 Front St, Santa Cruz,  Thursday, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Why Go: If you have any interest in Democratic Party politics, you should follow these meetings. Speaking at the March meeting are Jeff Killeen, Parliamentarian of the state Democratic Party Progressive Caucus and Herb Engstrom, Treasurer of the California Democratic Council.

Where/When:  , 2809 Mission St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 (Friday, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wilder Ranch State Park, all day Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Why Go: This is a two-day special event with representatives of an international mountain biking associations work with community groups to educate them and help volunteers build trails.  Friday, the trail crew will meet with community leaders. On Saturday, there will be an all-day trail-building school  at Wilder State Park. You can make a difference!

Where/When:  , 307 Church St, Santa Cruz, Saturday, 8:00 p.m. 

Why Go: It's the county symphony's third concert of the season. The Symphony performs a selection of delightful treats including 'Capriccio Espagnol' by Rimsky-Korsakov and Liszt's Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2,. Grammy-Nominated pianist, Adam Neiman appears as soloist. 

Pricing: $18 to $65

Where/When: Cocoanut Grove, 400 Beach St., Santa Cruz. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why Go: Need home improvement ideas? Need garden ideas? See all that's new and different and see what suits your taste—and your child's taste, too. This is a terrific event to bring your child to. If you get there early, you may get a free plant and/or t-shirt!
