Get Out: James Durbin at the Boardwalk

James Durbin returns to his home turf, and a Greek and film festival are in town.

 

Where/When: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, 400 Beach Street, Saturday, 5:30 p.m.

What: Santa Cruz’ hometown rocker is returning to the Boardwalk to perform during their kickoff weekend. He will perform songs with his new band from his recently released “Memories of a Beautiful Disaster” album, which debuted at No. 8 on Billboard’s Rock chart and No. 36 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.   

Cost: FREE

Where/When: 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, Saturday at 9 a.m.

What: Now that the sun is out, it’s a good time to get your hands dirty growing your own plants. Whether you want to eat them, or just bring more greenery to your backyard, learn about the ins-and-outs of successfully nurturing plants from seeds. 

Cost: FREE 

Where/When: Nickelodeon Theatre, 210 Lincoln Street, Thursday, shows start 12:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

What: Santa Cruz’ premier film festival continues through the weekend, with a slew of matinee films at the Nick on Thursday. Check out Crazy Wisdom (12:45 p.m.), Wild Card Weekday (1 p.m. for only $3), Looking Inward (a shorts program at 3:15 p.m.) and Lucky (at 3 p.m.) 

Cost: $8

Where/When: Harbor High School, 300 La Fonda Ave, 10 a.m. 

What: Help raise money for FleaHab, a nonprofit helping recovering addicts overcome their substance abuse, while enjoying live Congo drums, light refreshments, and a raffle.

Cost: $20

Where/When: 223 Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, Friday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

What: Go Greek this weekend, enjoying authentic food and music while bouzoki music fills the air.

Cost: FREE
