Grab and Go Kids Planner: Double Time with James Durbin, Cooking and Bikes

He's now down to the "Final Four" so cheer James Durbin again and maybe even see him perform; a cooking class for adults, a kids-oriented benefit for Bryan Stow and bike week festivities are our suggestions for this week's Santa Cruz Kids Planner

Where/When: , 301 Center St. Wednesday, 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go:  He's at it again. James Durbin is now in the Final Four of American Bandstand and word on the street is that James has a good shot at becoming the next American Idol. (In Santa Cruz, he is already ours.) Join us as we cheer on former Teen Center regular, James Durbin, in his quest to be the next American Idol. The Teen Center will be open to the public for this special event!

Where/When: , 400 Beach St., Saturday, 5 p.m.

Why Go:  James Durbin, the Santa Cruz singer who at this writing is one of four finalists in American Idol will sing at the Board Saturday night — if he makes the semi-finals on Idol after Wednesday night's show.  Offically May 14 is " "Durbin Day," in honor of Santa Cruz's James Durbin.  If Durbin makes it to the top three Wednesday night,  "Idol" will come to Santa Cruz with Durbin Saturday. If he comes Durbin is scheduled to be on the bandstand at 5 p.m. and sing four sings. Other scheduled performers are White Album Ensemble, who are also on the program to be Durbin's band.

Pricing: Free, but seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Where/When: 6500 Soquel Ave, Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. 

Why Go:  Here's a cooking class for adults and for kids. Adults get a look at asparagus and strawberries, now in bloom.  Kids will also get to play with strawberries, as Jamie teaches kids to make strawberry shortcake.

Where/When: Kings Playland, 220 Mount Hermon Rd. Scotts Valley, Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Show your support for Scotts Valley's Bryan Stow by bringing your children to this Kings Playland Event. The event is to help the family of the Giants Fan, who remains in a coma after he was attacked in the parking lot while leaving the Giants-Dodgers game. The Bryan Stow fund is a special needs trust set up to assist Stow's family. On this day, the Shopping Center will become a kid-inspired play land.  See our calendar to find out more about another event Sunday in Scotts Valley at Canepa Design that is also a fundraiser for the Stow family.

Where/When:  , 1001 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz, Sunday, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: This festival is the culmination of Bike Week in Santa Cruz County. The emphasis is on bikes, of course, but don't forget about the food, music and prizes, and whoops, we almost forgot, a 2HIP BMX Stunt Show.
