James Durbin Peforms with Orianthi for Rock School Scholarship Fund

The Santa Cruz native, who placed fourth on American Idol last year, benefited from a music scholarship and is now giving back.

Durbin sings the first metal song he ever heard, by Ronnie James Dio. It's a long way from the Beatles covers that first brought him fame.

The show was in Burbank and Orianthi was Michael Jackson's lead guitarist in the band he was planning to take on the road before his death.

Durbin was a rock school scholarship winner -- in fact, the first one-- at Dale Ockerman's Musicscool in Santa Cruz.
