Israeli-born guitarist Oz Noy has been pushing the frontiers of jazz for years, but on his latest work, Twisted Blues, Vol 1, he goes back to the roots and mixes his jazz stylings with America's oldest original music.

His trio includes Darryl Jones, who has been backing Mick Jagger and Keith Richards since 1993 and Dave Weckl, who played with Chick Corea's Electric Band and has backed Madonna, among others.

That's heavy-caliber star power for a Monday night in Santa Cruz.

They play Kuumbwa Jazz Center Monday at 7 p.m. and tickets are $28 at the door.
