Patch Blogger to be Honored June 17

Assemblyman Bill Monning is a big fan of Geoff Gilbert, who blogs and shows photos every Monday at Santa Cruz Patch.

Here is an announcement from Assemblyman Bill Monning's office about Patch photographer and blogger Geoff Gilbert.

(Geoff: We at Patch are so proud of you! And the release doesn't say anything about Gilbert's profoundly odd sense of humor.)

Assemblymember Monning to Host
Local Artist Reception in Santa Cruz

(SANTA CRUZ, CA) - Assemblymember Bill Monning (D-Carmel) will host a reception for photographer Geoffrey Gilbert on Friday, June 17, 2011, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at his Santa Cruz District Office located at 701 Ocean Street, Suite 318-B  and the public is welcome to attend.

Geoffrey Gilbert is recognized as one of Santa Cruz's premier landscape and nature photographers.  After a childhood spent in New Jersey, Mr. Gilbert moved to the Central Coast of California.  His images capture the beauty of the coastal environment within a 10-mile radius of Santa Cruz.  Locally, his work has been featured by large resident companies such as Seagate Technology, the Scharf Financial Group, Dominican Hospital and Bank of America.  Bay Federal Credit Union featured his stunning shots on a credit card and check designs.  In addition to his work as a nature photographer, Mr. Gilbert is a former sportscaster, sit-com script writer, and radio host.

“Geoffrey Gilbert’s photographs capture the grandeur of the ever-changing sea and sky that characterizes coastal California,” stated Assemblymember Monning.  “I applaud Mr. Gilbert’s dedication to his craft and honoring what is unique about our natural world.  It is an honor to have Mr. Gilbert’s stunning color photography displayed in both my Santa Cruz and Sacramento offices.”

The Assemblymember is an advocate for the arts and features local artists in both of his District Offices and in his Capitol Office.  Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP at (831) 425-1503.

Assemblymember Monning was first elected to represent the 27th Assembly District in 2008 and re-elected in 2010.  The 27th Assembly District includes portions of Monterey, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties.  Prior to his election to the Assembly, Assemblymember Monning was a professor at the Monterey College of Law and a Professor of International Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
