Photo Gallery: The Colorful Mosaics on the Soquel Bridge

Here are some collectable copies of the mosaics on the Soquel Avenue Bridge downtown created by Kathleen Crosetti's students at Mission Hill Middle School over the spring.

One of the best things about working at Santa Cruz Patch is that we are required each quarter to do a day of service work for the community. Patch pays for the day.

My service this month was to photograph the wonderful mosaics on the Soquel Avenue Bridge for a brochure the city is putting out.

"Sorry we can't pay you," said teacher Kathleen Crocetti when she asked me to take the pictures. As if I would take money regardless. No way.

But even better is the fact that Patch founders really believe in giving back. It makes me proud to work here and so lucky to get to cover the Cruz.

SO...if YOU have an idea for a Patch service day, let us know here in the comments. It can be for me at Santa Cruz Patch, or all four Santa Cruz County Patches, including Scotts Valley, Watsonville and Capitola/Soquel.

Heck, if it's a really big proposal, we could bring in many of the 30 Bay Area Patches.

Drop us serious work orders, please.

Meanwhile, enjoy a project that has taken me some time. They make nice posters or screen savers.

The theme here is agriculture in Santa Cruz County.

Next year the class is doing mosaics for the Broadway Bridge.
