Summer Begins Today With the First Crow's Nest Summer Beach Party

Some places have to wait another week for the season to get underway, but in Santa Cruz, the annual mating dance and old friends gathering on the beach starts today.

Hanging on the beach, drinking (one of the few times it's allowed) and listening to music after work on Thursdays at the is a Santa Cruz tradition.

It marks the real first day of summer.

The Summer Beach Party runs from tonight to Aug. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to sunset. Families are welcome and admission is free.

Tonight's season opener is local band Extra Large, one of the most popular cover and dance bands in Santa Cruz. Next week Sambada plays and the week after, Ribsy's Nickel.

I like the sound of James' new music and believe he has shown significant growth between his debut…Read More album and his second. But to say he was "the real winner of his season of 'American Idol'" is disingenuous. He faltered down the stretch compared to the other finalists.

As a life long lover of a variety of music I can safely say I see nothing but great things in this young man's future. He had me first as a singer,soon thereafter as a performer and now as James DURBIN, singer, song writer, performer and artist. He continues to grow and push himself toward stardom and I am proud to be Right Behind him all the way.
