The MAH Glows in the Dark

Friday marked the first of a two week series on all things that glow.

People flocked to the MAH like moths to a porchlight Friday night, for the museum's Third Friday GLOW: A Festival of Fire and Light. The rainy night made for a cozy atmosphere as people packed all three floors of the MAH to stay dry and treat themselves to some visual "oohs" and "aahs."

The event was split to span two weekends, since the rain dampered the number of performances that were scheduled to use the outside space.

The Hoopalights stole Friday's spotlight with a choreographed dance with LED hoops. The Santa Cruz-based dance group also dances at the lighthouse on the Westside every Sunday, from 5:30 p.m. until sunset.

"There's lots of tricks and moves, and there's lots of different tools thaty ou can play with and explore... it keeps you young and joyful and healthy," said the leader of Hoopalights, Heather Troy, who teaches hoola hoop classes and will be putting on a "Movement Arts Festival," on September 30 at 2601 East Lake Avenue.
