Viewfinder: The Wildest Collections at the Santa Cruz County Fair

Forget comics and baseball cards, these collectors go for some things you'd never expect.

The Santa Cruz County Fair rewards not just what you make, but what you gather.

Tucked away behind the prize-winning quilts and photographs is a collection of collections.

People pay $1.50 to submit the things they've gathered over the years and a group of judges ranks them a few weeks before the fair. Then the winners are displayed in cases at the fair.

One of the winners didn't even know he'd won until he walked into the room before going to the concert Wednesday night.

I know, those beer steins look amazing. I'll be at the county fair on Sunday checking them out for sure!

I always love the collections and imagine doing one one day. I just joked with my husband that I could enter my collection of pets! I have four cats, three dogs, a snake, and a parrot! They probably would not enjoy being in those cases for a week though. lol

You guys can add your pictures from the fair here...I missed so many of the collections: post your favorites for us all to see.

I put in a photo or two every year until it became too expensive to process. I still have my 35mm. Cannot catch up with the cost of things without a full time job since 2004!
