Dead Body Found Along San Lorenzo River

Police told local media it appears the man died of a drug overdose.

A dead body was found along the San Lorenzo River levee around dawn Monday but the death is not being considered suspicious, local media reported.

A deceased man was found in the bushes near the west levee, not far from CVS and downtown Santa Cruz, according to information posted on the Facebook page of Stab Santa Cruz, a neighborhood watch-like group.

Santa Cruz Police told the Sentinel the man was a 34-year-old transient who likely died of a drug overdose. A syringe was found next to him, the newspaper reported.

His body was found just as a Bay Area TV station arrived in Santa Cruz to report on problems surrounding the San Lorenzo River, namely homeless encampments and pollution, according to KSBW
