Three-Acre Highway 1 Brush Fire Put Out in an Hour

A fire that crept towards homes near the Fishhook was doused by helicopter and firefighters Thursday afternoon.

The fire, at Highway 17 and Highway 1, near the site of illegal homeless encampments, was quenched quickly, according to Cal Fire.

Traffic flowed freely during the blaze, which would have caused a lot more problems if it hadn't been out by 4 p.m., witnesses said.

"There's helicopters flying over right now. I saw flames right next to a big house," said drug counselor Nicole Evans.
