All You Can Eat Indian Food Every Day at Sitar

Sitar in downtown Santa Cruz has a vegetarian buffet that can't be beat

"If you can find a better deal any place, I want to see it," says Sitar's manager Shanti Mendola.

His Indian restaurant, named for the complex many-stringed instrument, plays a tune that students and misers love. For $6 you can eat all you want at the vegetarian buffet. For another $2 or $3 you can add chicken, salad and desert. The "lunch" special lasts until 5 p.m.

Or if you really want the steal, for $4 you can fill a take out box with vegetarian food or for $5 add a meat dish.

The buffet changes dishes regularly, including creamy masa sauce dishes, grilled veggies, deep fried pakora, rice and beans. Basically, a vegetarian's delight, and healthy too.

Teachers and students who don't go for the buffet always get 15 percent off their entrees with a student or faculty card.
