'Restaurant: Impossible' Tears up Hoffman's Bistro Downtown

Buff Food Network host Robert Irvine was in town to remake Hoffman's Bistro and Patisserie, which has been open for a decade.

Take a good look at these before pictures...because after Tuesday at 6 p.m., it will all be different.

Ed Hoffman, who has owned   at 1102 Pacific Ave., since 2001, was picked for a restaurant makeover by the Food Channel show Restaurant: Impossible.

On Sunday the Hollywood crew moved in, taking over the back parking lot and setting up lights, camera and action in the restaurant.

Monday, they filmed and interviewed the last random diners eating in what will be the old Hoffman's. Tuesday at 6 p.m., after a $10,000 makeover, the first meals in the new place will be served.

Hoffman used to work at the Old Theater Cafe and continues its tradition of fine, European-style baked goods.

The restaurant has a big lunch and breakfast crowd, but he wants to entice more people in for dinner. Here's the old dinner menu.

I hope they don't change the quality of the food. I think it's very good. The service could use some help though, especially for their dine-in customers. FYI, johnny-at-the-harbor, loves Denny's if that ells you anything (I know this for a fact) I'm Mrs JatH.

I think Hoffmann's would do well to skip dinner (not the best meal there by far) and keep doing what they do best - old-world baked goods - perhaps become more like a Viennese tearoom. They have very good breakfast offerings, and I hope that continues, and I hope they also keep the wonderful live music, which would be nice to have at Saturday and Sunday brunch.

I love Hoffman's for its great comfortable atmosphere. It does need updating. I like some of the dinner menu but it is all a bit heavy. I wish there were lighter choices and more vegetarian. I hope they keep the Jazz night. We especially come for that.

We ate there last year with in-laws from the Bay Area and we were pleased. It is far from the usual TV show candidates for a make-over. I don't see why they chose it. When is the show going to air?

They haven't said yet when it will be broadcast...we'll let you know as soon as we know.
