Santa Cruz County Gas Prices Expected to Fall

Prices at the pump should drop nationwide, according to recent reports.

Santa Cruz County should see relief at the gas pump after September’s gas prices were, nationally, the highest of the summer, according to a Marketwatch story on Monday.

Gas prices in the Santa Cruz-Watsonville area on Wednesday were an average of $4.128 for regular unleaded fuel, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. That's far from our local high of $4.68 per gallon, set in June 2008, according to AAA. It's down oh-so-slightly from one week ago, when it was $4.136, and a month ago, when it was $4.137.

The price fall has been blamed on a combination of Middle East oil politics, a seasonal drop in demand and a variety of other factors.
