Santa Cruz Hopes 'Lost Boys' in London Will Help Tourism

Surfers and vampires are being used to pump up area tourism. Shh. Don't tell them about the summer fog.

You can already see pictures of surf pioneer on the London tube, encouraging people to visit California.

Now the Santa Cruz County Conference and Visitors Council is helping to present a screening of the 1987 cult horror classic, The Lost Boys, in London on Saturday.

The movie was filmed in Santa Cruz and has been the centerpiece of two celebrations at the Boardwalk.

Tourist agencies hope the movie about vampire killers and a tribe of Santa Cruz vampires, will spur the $600 million-a-year tourist industry. Santa Cruz will be featured in a three-minute commercial before the movie is shown at two days of "California Classics" shown on the River Thames to thousands of people.

Someone should make sure to tell them that the best times to visit are fall and spring, when the sun actually shines.
