This event was so popular last year that over 1,400 people attended. Not to mention, the celebration happens on the First Friday Art Tour in downtown Santa Cruz where one could spend hours observing local artists' pieces and collections in numerous locations and businesses throughout Santa Cruz.
What: Zebra 3 plays at Coasters Bar and Grill
Time: 8:30 p.m.-midnight
Where: Coasters Bar and Grill, 115 Cliff St. at the Boardwalk Bowl.
Why go? Spare a little fun for yourself. Local Santa Cruz cover band brings you back to the 80's and beyond with alternative/classic rock favs like INXS, The Cure, and Stone Temple Pilots.
What: First Friday Art Tour
Time: Open generally noon-9 p.m.
Where: Varies, all over the City of Santa Cruz.
Why go? Location, location, location...Downtown Santa Cruz will host many works of art by locals throughout the vicinity. Check out the library's exhibition, 'There's no place like home,' Santa Cruz County 'Bank's In Dreams,' Louden Nelson Center's 'Vivian Vargas,' Michaelangelo Studio's 'Sandra Cherk,' Diversity Center's 'Scottie Johnson and Pat Dellin,' and Pure Pleasure's 'Nancy Peach,' and much more!
SATURDAY
What: Jackson Browne in concert
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Cost: $45-$75
Where: Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium
Why go? This Rock n Roll Hall of Fame legend was well received in the 70's and will be performing many songs from his entire collection during his 2013 Acoustic Tour. Some well known classics include: The Pretender, Running on Empty.
What: Aptos Farmer's Market at Cabrillo College
Time: 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Cost: Free
Where: Cabrillo College; 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos
Why go? Voted "America's favorite farmer's market in California 2011-2012," by Monterey Bay Farmers.org site and one of the best coastal farmer's markets by "Coastal Living Magazine.
Some 80 vendors with seedlings, microgreens, grass-fed meat and poultry, handcrafted cheese, fresh pasta, and locally produced olive oil, sustainable fish, oysters, farm fresh eggs, organic locally grown produce, and Corralitos smoked sausage and bacon.
What: Bug Hunt
Time: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; rain or strong wind cancels.
Cost: Free with $10 parking fee.
Where: Big Basin park headquarters
Why go? A chance to put on your bug eyes and explore Big Basin. This two hour hike should be great fun for kids and bug lovers so don't forget your camera! Led by Docent Scott Peden.
What: Redwood Loop Walk
Time: 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m.; rain or strong wind cancels.
Cost: Free with $10 parking fee.
Where: Big Basin park headquarters
Why go? Can't make the Bug Hunt? Have no fear, there are more scheduled hikes to enjoy. Learn how redwood trees are important to people and how a few notable redwoods even became famous. Stroller and wheelchair accessible.
SUNDAY
What: Not on Our Watch: Training Walks Open to Public
Time: 11 a.m. every Sunday until the event; approx. four hours.
Cost: Free
Where: Grind out Hunger Headquarters; 912 41st Ave. to Natural Bridges State Park and back.
Why go? Walk while training for the upcoming event Not on Our Watch: An Epic Trek to Raise Awareness, about the existence of children going hungry right here in Santa Cruz County. Organizer Chris Danzer is passionate about ending child hunger and points out the hard fact that "one out of four kids are missing meals." The event will take place in March. Train, meet people, and bring attention to this serious issue even before the important event takes place.
What: Catch the Bowl with drink deals and good food.
Where: Super Bowl Pary at the 2218 East Cliff Drive. All night Happy Hour begins at 3:30 with half price appetizers and well drinks, house wines, and draft beer specials. Wide screen T.V's and ocean harbor views.
Where: 115 Cliff Street. Brand new screens are sure to please Super Bowl fans while enjoying unlimited bowling from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for up to six people per lane. $2 and $3 food specials and $3 budweiser pints, $10 bud pitchers, and $3 Red Hook Long Hammer bottle specials. $45 per lane includes shoes.
Where: Seabright Brewery, 519 Seabright Avenue. There will be more to cheer about after every 49er touchdown with $7 beer pitchers and $4 Jameson shots. Pitchers are normally $12. Jello shots $2, food specials and big screen T.V's.
