Hula School of Santa Cruz Infuses First Friday with Aloha Spirit

The art, music, and dance of Hawai’i is coming to Santa Cruz during First Friday on June 6th from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at The Hula School of Santa Cruz, 1001 Center Street in downtown Santa Cruz. The school will host four artists inspired by the beauty of Hawai’i and its culture, including Jerry Coe, the great grandson of Jeremiah Coe, a Salvation Army missionary who created hand-tinted glass lantern slides of Hawai’i over 100 years ago. Prints produced from photographs of these rare works of art will be on display for the first time. Leolani Lowry, owner of The Hula School of Santa Cruz and a native of Hilo, Hawai’i, will lead her students in hula performances. The Ho’omana Band will entertain visitors with traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music.
