What:  Caroling in Capitola Village at the Bandstand

Why Go:  Revel in the spirit of the season with some Christmas Caroling fun.  Join Soquel High Jazz Singers as they lead Carolers through the village.  Dress warm and bring a flashlight!  Refreshments will be provided at the Esplanade by the Shawdowbrook.

Why Go:  The Coffis Brothers, Tammi Brown, Josh Lowe, and other talented  musicians will come together for a tribute to the great Bob Dylan.

What:  Holidays on the Ranch

When:  11a.m. – 3p.m.

Where:  The Meder Farmhouse Living History Museum and Melvin Wilder 1897 Victorian Home on the Wilder Ranch State Park

Why Go:  Make the holiday’s merry Victorian style while singing along to the songs of the player piano, taking wagon rides, making wreaths and candles, and so much more. There will baked items for sale, hot drinks, Victorian and Mexican holiday crafts to be made, and cookies to decorate. Check it out!

What:  Life in the Tide Pools

When:  2p.m.

Where:  Greyhound Rock area.  Meet at Waddell Beach Parking Lot.

Why Go:  Take a break from the shopping, baking, and decorating and have some outdoor fun exploring lil’ sea creatures.  This is a family fun event led by Interpretive Specialist Morgan Dill.  The fun will begin with a mile plus hike down the beach. Warm clothes, tide pooling shoes and binoculars are recommended.

What:  Will Swim for Food

When:  9a.m.

Where:  Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf

Why Go:  “Hunger is a Community Crisis on the Central Coast!” The Second Harvest Food Bank serves over 50,000 people each month and 45% of them are children.  Come cheer on the swimmers braving the cold ocean temperatures in the fight against hunger.  Better yet, make a pledge to a swimmer or food bank and help combat the battle against hunger.

What:  New Leaf vs. Allterra Solar Celebrity Hardwood Classic

When:  Doors open at 5p.m., Tip off 6p.m.

Where:  Kaiser Permanente Arena

Why Go:  This is one game of hoop you won’t want to miss.  Local celebrity musicians, city officials, and athletes including Mayor Hillary Bryant, James Durbin, Don Lane, William Ow, and Ryan Coonerty will all take the court in support of Grind Out Hunger.

What:  Mad Hatter’s Holiday Tea Party

When:  11a.m., 1p.m., and 3:30p.m. for those with children

Where:  The Quail & Thistle Tea Room, Capitola

Why Go:  Join together friends and family for a Wonderland celebration with Alice, the Mad Hatter, and White Rabbit.  Delicate sandwiches and delicious tea will be served. This event benefits ‘Toys for Tots’ Santa Cruz and is a fun way to ring in the holidays.  Don’t be late!

Cost:  $29/ages 2-9, $39/ten and over

 

What:  Berry Creek Falls Hike

When:  9:30a.m.

Where:  Big Basin.  Meet at Park Headquarters

Why Go:  Check out the array of habitats on this 11 mile, seven hour hike deep into the woods of Big Basin.  Berry Creek Falls, the “jewel” of Big Basin, is a grand 65-foot spectacular sight.  This moderate to strenuous adventure involves some climbing of dry ridges and lots of visuals.  Bring your binoculars, lots of water, lunch, and layers.

What:  ‘The Nutcracker’ Presented by Agape Dance Academy

When:  1p.m. & 4:30p.m., (Sat. 2p.m. & 7p.m.)

Where:  Santa Cruz High School Theater

Why Go:  Don’t let the season glide by without seeing this glorious holiday presentation.  Professional dance school performers are sure to look stunning in amazing costumes and beautiful choreography.
