The O'Neill Coldwater Classic Heats Up This Weekend and More..

What:  The O’Neill Coldwater Classic Invitational 2013

When:  November 6th - 10th

Where:  Steamer Lane at Lighthouse Point, Santa Cruz

Why Go:  North America’s longest running surf contest returns! The Invitational will include a 16-man field of competitors.  The 2013 title winner will receive a year’s worth of sponsor support by O’Neill, an estimated value of $50,000.  In honor of local legend Jason “Ratboy” Collins, local surfers will also participate as part of the “Ratboy Rampage.”

What:  Santa Cruz Film Festival

When:  Friday, 4:45p.m., last showing at 9:15p.m. (Thursday – Sunday)

Where:  The Rio Theater & Pacific Arts Complex

Why Go:  An afternoon and evening full of film narratives and documentaries including Joann Shuch’s, “Tricky Bidness.” The documentary focuses on the controversial subject of medical marijuana.

What:  Roller Disco Party

When:  7:30p.m.

Where:  Santa Cruz Palladium

Why Go:  Slip on those skates and get caught up in Disco. Everyone is encouraged to feather their hair and wear their favorite Village People, Donna Summer, or Bee Gees attire if you dare! Event hosted by the Godfather of skate.

What:  Pop Up Museum; Drinking is in the Heart

When:  3p.m. – 5p.m.

Where:  Red Restaurant and Bar

Why Go:  Come share a drink, stories, or artifacts at the Red during “happy hour,” and check out some rare Santa Cruz drinking memorabilia by Historian Geoffrey Dunn and Collector Bob Welch.  Santa Cruz includes a history of Rum-running during Prohibition, brothels, and more.  This event, focusing on spirits, is part of the series of “Santa Cruz is in the heart of pop-up museums,” taking the museum out of the museum.

Cost:  Free

 

What:  The Big Lebowski Party

When:  9p.m. – 12p.m.

Where:  Pacific Arts Complex

Why Go:  View the screening of “The Big Lebowski,” the classic Coen’s Brothers film, while participating in a costume contest and mini bowling.  Music and a full bar will be part of the festivities.

Cost:  $10/admission , free with S.C.F.F. pass.

What:  Downtown Santa Cruz Antique Faire

When:  8a.m. – 5p.m.

Where:  Lincoln St., between Pacific Ave. and Cedar St.

Why Go:  This is a vintage paradise for collectors and anyone seeking original gifts, treasure, and trinkets.  Weather permitting.  http://www.downtownsantacruz.com/

What:  Strike Out Hunger

When:  11a.m. – 10p.m. (November 1st –December 1st)

Where:  Boardwalk Bowl, Santa Cruz

Why Go:  If you love to bowl or want an excuse to learn the sport, then this is the perfect opportunity for you.  Bring a can of food in for the Second Harvest Food Bank and bowl a game for free. True! This rewarding sporting event is a win-win.  Contact:  831-426-3324
