What:  Shakespeare Santa Cruz & UCSC Theatre Arts Annual Co-Production, “It’s a Wonderful Life:  A Live Radio Play,” Preview

Where:  UCSC Theatre Arts Mainstage

Why Go:  Jump start your holiday spirit with this classic performance. The cast of just nine actors will perform as many different characters of the Bedford Falls community.  A 1940’s style, live radio broadcast sets the scene for this heartwarming favorite the whole family can enjoy.

What:  Radical Craft Night

When:  5p.m. – 9p.m.

Where:  The Museum of Art and History Atrium

Why Go:  In this very creative community event, the public is welcome to join in the collaboration of crafts.  This will be a great opportunity to get hands-on help by local crafters as they teach the art of embroidery, knitting, sewing, scrap metal art, wood cut 3D canvases, crafting electronics and more! There will be a parade at 5p.m. and musical performances after.

What:  Sessions Presents a Benefit for the Tim Brauch Memorial Fund & Grind Out Hunger

When:  11a.m. – 3p.m.

Where:  Grind Out Hunger Headquarters, 41st Ave.

Why Go:  Don’t miss this benefit!  Limited edition Tim Brauch Memorial Skate Contest Shirts will be available for sale along with entertainment at its best.  A live performance by Vincent’s Ear, a barbeque, skating, and a 1965 Pontiac leman raffle will add more than excitement to this V.I.F., very important fundraiser!

What:  Strike Out Hunger and Bowl for Free

When:  Saturdays until 8p.m., all day Sunday – Friday.

Where:  Boardwalk Bowl

Why Go:  The Second Harvest Food Bank and Boardwalk Bowl have teamed up to feed local families in need this holiday season and all year round.  Every can of food donated gets you one free game of bowling (limit one game per person per day.) Gather your best buds and have a blast bowling.  Feel good while you support the community!

Where:  Whole Foods Parking Lot, Soquel Ave. & Branciforte Ave.

Why Go:  Pack your electronic trash the right way.  Take advantage of the free e-waste program being brought to you by Whole Foods, Goodwill Industries, ECS Refining, and KDON radio station.  That’s right, just drop off your old TV, fax machine, printer, VCR, DVD player, computer, or any other unused electronic device and get it disposed of for free, the environmental correct way.

Where:  The Rio Theatre

Why Go:  This former Banana Slug later appeared in American Songwriter for his gospel over-toned folk music lyrics.  Big hits, “Sydney” are included on the tracks, “I’ll Come Running,” and “Hard Times.”  Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly have also taking notice of this nationally recognized singer/songwriter.  Dennen will debut his latest album, “Smoke and Mirrors,” featuring “Wild Child,” and may even perform a few local favorites.

What:  Discover Big Basin Hike

When:  12p.m.

Where:  Big Basin Park Headquarters

Why Go:  The weather is still fabulous, but for how long?  With the holidays approaching, so are the rainy nights and muddy days.  Now is the time to get out and take that scenic hike through the big trees and “some of the parks most scenic backcountry.” The four-mile, four hour hike is led by docent Barry Grimm.  Pack some snacks, water, and your favorite camera!  Don’t forget to wear layers and super comfortable shoes.
