How do you describe your work and yourself as an artist?
I am a printmaker, calligrapher and book artist.  I make prints from soft block carvings that sometimes incorporate calligraphy and/or become part of a book.

Describe your journey and the path you have taken to develop your art.
About ten years ago, I read an article on eraser carving and joined the Carving Consortium, an online group of soft block carvers who share their love of this medium through print exchanges.

My first awareness of calligraphy was in high school when a friend passed me notes written in what I later learned was the italic hand. I was primarily self-taught until I began studying with master lettering artists six years ago and have since become a professional student.

Everything from nature to cyberspace inspires me. In carving, I am drawn to flowers and portraits of men and women whose lives and/or works intrigue me.

Please talk about your associations with art groups.
I enjoy participating in numerous print exchanges through the Carving Consortium. This year I also signed up for Maria Arango Diener's Monumental Collaborative Puzzle Prints, wherein 92 printmakers were each sent a piece of wood block to carve.
