Fringe Festival: DNA's Stand-Up Mash-Up 5 Mighty Nights of Comedy

The First Annual Fringe Festival is featuring the best Bay Area and local comics over 5 nights at the Center Stage.

DNA's Stand-Up Mash-Up (Best of Santa Cruz and Bay Area Stand-Up Comedy) is proud to be presenting five totally different 90 minute shows at The Center Stage Theatre—with each show featuring up to ten different comics.

Tickets are available at the door and through www.scfringe.com

The kick-off on Friday the 13th of July features John Hoogasian whose eccentric world of minutia makes him a lysergic acid drenched version of Jack Benny. Rodger Lizaola breaks away from the pack of San Jose comics with his fiery freestyle brand of outrageous humor. Local Amy Raugust is now a national sensation living in LA, working the stages of NYC and will be featured among many more.

Sunday the 15th of July is an afternoon show, which usually spells death for stand-up comedy—but within the confines of a black box theatre it’s going to be an Old School vs. New School comedy jam. The eponymous elders are played by Gail Jones and local favorite Richard Stockton. The young ones are a mix of UCSC’s best and Blue Lagoon All Stars.

Tuesday the 17th of July features one of the Bay Area’s funniest females the wild-haired Marcella Arguello who has been referred to as a “hysterical young glamazon.” Also on the bill, amongst many others is local Trevor Hill who’s unique brand of atheist humor has gotten him on the historic Steve Allen Stage in LA.

Saturday the 21st of July has three of the most amazing ladies working the comedy circuit, Lydia Popvich is the author of the extremely funny and successful blog Hater Tuesday, Caitlin Gill is Bay Area firestorm and UCSC graduate Mary Van Note is the Fringiest and best-dressed of all comics.

Closing out The Fringe Festival on Sunday the 22nd of July features Bay Area Kurt Weitzmann who played the infamous Holy City Zoo and this is just a sample of all the amazing comics set to perform

I like the sound of James' new music and believe he has shown significant growth between his debutRead More album and his second. But to say he was "the real winner of his season of 'American Idol'" is disingenuous. He faltered down the stretch compared to the other finalists.

He is such an attractive and lovely young man, tho I am old enough to be his grandmother I stillRead More feel so passionate about James Durbin and his sexy hair and rock music. Makes me feel young again!

This show was exceptional, James is a natural on stage and shines with the brightest stars. I amRead More proud to say I was hooked and reeled in from the first notes sang during Idol auditions. As a life long lover of a variety of music I can safely say I see nothing but great things in this young man's future. He had me first as a singer, soon thereafter as a performer and now as James DURBIN, singer, song writer, performer and artist. He continues to grow and push himself toward stardom and I am proud to be Right Behind him all the way.
