Celebrate the 146th Memorial Day at Evergreen Cemetery Monday

Santa Cruz's Museum of Art & History will put on the 146th Memorial Day tribute Monday at 11 a.m., featuring speaker Don Bradley, a retired chief with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office. Bradley, a colorful character and writer, says that now that he's not with the department, he can freely speak his mind.

The observance will be held in the quiet Grand Army of the Republic plot at the cemetery which began in the 1850s and has veterans of the Civil War buried there.

Other city and county leaders will speak at the free observance. After an hour-long program, there will be a BBQ luncheon at the Portuguese Hall hosted by United Veteran’s Council of Santa Cruz County, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7263, American Legion Post 64, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 10110.

The cost is $5.
