DUI Checkpoint Under Way in Capitola

Motorists may experience delays along a portion of eastbound Capitola Avenue.

In an effort to combat drunken and impaired driving, the Santa Cruz area California Highway Patrol and the Capitola Police Department are conducting a DUI checkpoint from 9 p.m. Saturday, May 24 until 1 a.m. Sunday, May 25 on eastbound 41st Avenue east of Capitola Road.

The goal for this checkpoint is to help reduce injuries and fatal collisions caused by impaired drivers over the long Memorial Day weekend.

Funding for the program is provided by the Office of Traffic Safety Grant, Impaired Driving Enforcement and Apprehension.
