Sunday Fire Causes $3,000 of Damage to Santa Cruz Home

Residential fire is 12th to occur this year in the city.

A fire caused about $3,000 of damage to a two-story home in Santa Cruz Sunday morning, according to the Santa Cruz Fire Department.

The fire was one of 12 residential fires that have occured since Jan. 1 of this year in the city of Santa Cruz, said Kelly Kumac of the Santa Cruz Fire Department. These include chimney and cooking fires.

Firefighters responded to a blaze at a home at 421 Clinton St. at about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, officials said.

Crews contained the fire to the home's chimney, and the blaze was put out in 15 minutes of firefighters arriving.

No one was injured, and the fire appears to have started accidentally. No one was displaced by the fire.
