GET OUT: Celebrate Medicine Buddha, Catch the Mermen, Spot Classic Motorcycles

SATURDAY JUNE 29

What: Celebration at the Land of Medicine Buddha
Where: Land of Medicine Buddha, 5800 Prescott Road, Soquel
When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Cost: FREE
Why: This is one of those incredibly exotic places that you would visit for sure if you were in another country, but many in Santa Cruz don't know it exists. It's more than a religious retreat center for the Tibetan culture. It's got amazing hiking trails and for this one day, there is a free lunch, vendors, art booths and healing practitioners. Also, music, an 11 a.m. procession,  a children's bounce house and face painting. For more, www.landofmedicinebuddha.org

What: The Mermen
Where: Moe's Alley
When: 9 p.m.
Cost: $12/$15, benefit for Surfrider
Why: Jimi's gone; Stevie's gone. The Mermen are the next best thing, a trio that pushes dreamy soundscapes to the fringes of psychedelia. They've only played out four times this year. Don't miss them.

What: Paul Thorn & Band
Where: Rio Theatre
When: 7:30 p.m.
Cost: $25-$40
Why: This Tupelo, Miss. songwriter is a staple on KPIG and a favorite of Americana music fans. Seeing him for the first time is like discovering Van Morrison back in the 1960s. You wonder how a guy with these chops isn't a superstar. But the fact that he's not, lets you see him in the intimacy of the Rio. And electric is best.

SUNDAY JUNE 30

What: 2013 Vintage Motorcycle Show
Where: Capitola Mall
When: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Cost: Free
Why:
See, sell, swap, photograph vintage cycles and scooters. See the Scotts Valley precision Riding Team perform. Check out the newest in electric cycles.
