GET OUT: Wine, A Big Name TV Star, Flowers, Hikes, Funk, and Did We Say Wine?

Why: Start with drinks and free admission at the Museum of Art & History, where  from 5-9pm, there will be a no-host bar and live music . 

This week they feature a collage activity tying the woodworking exhibition to Lisa Hochstein’s paper collage show on the third floor. Come make a leaf and add it to a community mobile.

And up at Mission State Park, 144 School St. from 5-8 p.m. you can see an exhibition of handwoven accessories by Annie McHale. According to their release:

Working on an inkle loom which is designed to weave narrow pieces, Annie creates one of a kind works of art that you can use every day. Much like a painter sits down at a canvas with paints, Annie sits down at the loom with colored yarns. Because of her spontaneous design process, each strap is woven in a unique pattern, created in the moment, using as many as twenty two hues.

While she prefers to use natural fibers such as cotton, rayon, linen, hemp and silk, Annie also incorporates pieces of recycled materials such as cassette tape or cut up t-shirts! Browse her current collection, which includes straps for laptop bags and luggage, guitar straps, bracelets, hatbands, scarves and small purses with woven straps.

Why: Winners of the SF Weekly's Best International Act, these funky, killer grooves are a trip around the globe you can dance to. Here's some vid to get you psyched.

SATURDAY JUNE 8

WHAT: SAVE OUR SHORES World Ocean Day
Where: Seacliff Beach
When: 10 a.m. - noon
WHY: Be a beachsaver and learn to clean up beaches the right way. Beachkeepers will meet with Save Our Shores staff for a training session at Seacliff.

WHAT: Old Redwood Walk
Where: Henry Cowell State Park, Visitors Center, off Highway 9
When: 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
Cost: $10 parking
Why:
Experience a forest adventure on a docent-led walk through the magnificent old-growth coast redwood forest. Be prepared to be amazed! 

SUNDAY JUNE 9

WHAT: Roots that Rock

Where: Downtown Santa Cruz on Pacific Avenue between Locust and Walnut

When: 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Why: Sample the best of local vineyards in a tasting party downtown. Tickets are $1 each and a $8 glass. Tastings go for between 2 and 5 tickets. Party down. More info? Click here. 


What: Wildflower Hike

Where: Rancho del Oso Nature and History Center

When: 10 a.m.

Why: With seven different habitats and over 50 species of flowers, there's some great viewing and photographing to be had. Docent Scott Peden will lead this 4.5 mile, four hour hike that starts at the nature center.

WHAT: Creed Bratton, from the Office plus the Grass Roots

Where: Moe's Alley

When: 8 p.m.

Cost: $20 advance/$25 day of show. Check here for tix.

Why: Who knew that weird guy on TV's The Office started as a musician with the Grass Roots and did comedy and storytelling before making it to the nationally-loved weird show. He had hits with the Grass Roots, such as "Live for Today," an addicting piece of ear candy.
